Overview
Gum is Unity’s first consumer product, aimed at introducing the power of Unity to a broader audience—specifically, millions of non-technical, mobile creators. It is a no-code AR creation mobile platform that empowers social media creators to design and capture interactive 3D content. By employing simple gestures and interactions, users can create interactive 3D scenes, record them as video footage, and share them across various social media platforms to increase engagement with their audience.
I joined Gum shortly after the alpha release. There were some issues with engagement and retention - mainly due to usability issues and lack of an onboarding experience. Designing and iterating toward beta, we introduced templates (for faster success), redesigned the instantiation experience and added a scalable tooltip system to help users discover the value of Gum and more quickly reach success.
